Ito’s early contributions emerged within a community of artists who engaged with art primarily through Internet technologies.

His practice is characterised by the creation of  a vast, interconnected network of artworks. His work spans various mediums, including installations, paintings, sculptures, videos, drawings, websites, books, printmaking, and now NFTs. Together, they unveil Parker/to.net, a new 10,000-piece artwork project that marks several firsts in the history of painting.

Starting Thursday 22nd August 2024, collectors can mint a unique Parker composition as an NFT and then redeem it for an oil painting made in a painting factory in China, delivered to the collector’s door. The NFT is $30, while the oil painting prices are as follows: $350 for a small (16×14 in.), $450 for a medium (25×22 in.), $1500 for a large (42×37 in.), and $4000 for an extra-large (84×74 in.), with free worldwide shipping.

Parker/to.net uses new technology and international commerce networks to expand how artworks are made and distributed. Notably, Parker/to.net is the first time a painting series has been created with generative technology at this scale to produce artworks that can be redeemed for hand-produced paintings. Combining Parker’s focus on the Internet, networked systems, and traditional art-making techniques, Parker/to.net continues Ito’s experiments using emerging technologies to discover new ways to interact with images.

The project is based on the PFP format, the most popular and optimum form for NFTs because of the way they encapsulate and propel mimetic and cult power, with archetypal NFT examples taking this format, including CryptoPunks, Bored Apes and Milady Maker. The central figure in these new Parker works is the Parked Domain Girl, a popular stock photo Parker has returned to many times in his painting series, “The Most Infamous Girl in the History of the Internet” (2010 – ongoing).

To create the images, Parker uses rapidly improving generative image-making tools. Parker’s extensive archive of source material-whether found, created by the artist, meme, gif, jpeg, text, or something else-is compiled and filtered through the generative software HashLips. The results are a new type of algorithmically produced, densely layered collage. Just as artists of the early 20th-century proposed new art forms with their collages, Parker and fellow NFT artists continue to update this tradition with the aid of new technologies.

Parkerlto.net is part of Zien’s ongoing contemporary art collaborations, which aim to offer new ways for artists and galleries to produce and sell art online. Since beginning in 2020, Zien has collaborated with artists including Agnieszka Kurant, Shezad Dawood and Petra Cortright. They have also collaborated with Hans Ulrich Obrist, Shuman Basar, and Dean Kissick, among others, to bring internet-native artworks to wider audiences. Zien has introduced thousands of collectors to a new way of collecting contemporary art. Zien projects are in the collections of major institutions, including the Centre Pompidou, Castello di Rivoli, Hartwig Foundation, lOFl, and Kadist.

Taking place from June 10-16, 2024, this event marks Basel’s first-ever digital art fair, bringing together leading artists, collectors, and enthusiasts from around the globe.

At The Digital Art Mile, the Sigg Art Foundation will present a showcase dedicated to artificial intelligence and digital medium, featuring the works of pioneering digital artists Grégory Chatonsky, Justin Aversano, Ben Elliot and Bernar Venet.

Grégory Chatonsky, a pioneer in the practice of AI in contemporary art, which he has
dubbed “Artificial Imagination,” will present a new version of “Terre Seconde”, installation previously exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo in 2019. Generated from millions of data – images, texts and sounds – found on the internet, Terre Seconde is a scalable, modular structure that creates its own representation of the mineral planet, but not an identical reproduction of it.

Justin Aversano, renowned for his evocative photographic portraits, will present his acclaimed series “Twin Flames” alongside the “Doppelgänger” series, created in collaboration with digital artist Kim Asendorf. These works will be placed in dialogue to explore themes of identity and perception through glitchy video portraits, offering a unique reflection on the human experience in the digital age. Ben Elliot is an artist who addresses contemporary themes such as the impact of emerging technologies, the rise of influence marketing, and the formation of socioeconomic trends.

In his process, Elliot often incorporates leading companies, individuals, and objects to examine the concepts and values they embody. Elliot will present “Metaone”, an ambitious virtual reality project which aims to redefine our relationship to the creative space and be a vessel for forward-thinking cultural forms.

Vinnie Hager’s boundary-breaking art project ‘Diary’ is set to drop on 7th September 2023 https://artplugged.co.uk/vinnie-hagers-boundary-breaking-art-project-diary-is-set-to-drop-on-7th-september-2023/ Tue, 22 Aug 2023 20:36:33 +0000 https://artplugged.co.uk/?p=43630 On 7th of September 2023, Baltimore-based artist Vinnie Hager, celebrated for his unmistakable bold lines, shapes, and patterns, will launch his groundbreaking art project titled ‘Diary‘. Hager will release an open edition NFT, and 100 lucky owners will receive an original drawing by Hager to complement their purchase. This pioneering venture will blend the realms of physical and digital art, aspiring to be one of the year’s most inclusive art projects. The collection aims to reach both traditional art enthusiasts and digital art collectors alike, tracing Hager’s career from his early exploration in drawing from 2016 until now.

Hager, an artist known for his iconography-centric art style showcased in ‘Letters’, a 2021 digital art project that has generated $10 million worth of trading to date, will unveil his latest venture this September, centred on a collection of open edition digital artworks that will be available via OpenSea.

Every digital artwork purchased will stand distinct, drawing from 12 diverse aesthetic categories and multiple colourways, tracking the evolution of Hager’s stylistic artistry over the course of his career. Striving for universal accessibility in the art market, each piece in the open edition is priced at $86 and owners of these digital art works can further claim a physical print of their purchase at a later date.

This first-of-its-kind collection is paired with a physical claim aspect, where Hager will distribute 100 significant drawings – created between 2016 and 2023 – to the respective digital artwork holders. These 100 unique physical artworks – the basis of the digital artwork collection – chronicle Hager’s transformative seven-year journey, a period marred by personal losses including the passing of both his parents and his half-brother.

Vinnie Hager's boundary-breaking art project ‘Diary’
Hager 8×10

This poignant collection stands as a testament to Hager’s enduring spirit and acts as a visual diary, chronicling his emotional evolution. By sharing his story through these compelling artworks, Vinnie aims to convey how his artistic practice and therapeutic drawing process became his “saving grace,” enabling him to overcome hardships and find new avenues for success, connections, and self-expression.

“For me, drawing is the baseline of all my artwork and transitions into my daily life and habits. These 100 artworks that I’ve done over the past 7 years are so important to me because they act as a visual diary through from the really tough times, to the good times. I wanted to be able to reimagine those different eras of my life through a digital lens, having the process of this collection breathe new life and the meaning of that visual language.” – Vinnie Hager

Vinnie Hager's boundary-breaking art project ‘Diary’
Hager 11×14

Hager’s artwork is based on drawing. The elements that he employs in his work are made up of lines, shapes, characters, and symbols that connect through form and structure, like a jigsaw puzzle. This way of drawing allows Vinnie to generate his own iconography that ranges from the recognizable, like envelopes, flowers, eyes, and stars, to the abstract and the gestural. By combining that iconography in this way his work becomes a cleverly harnessed motif which then varies by scale, intricacy, and repetition.

Hager has partnered and worked with brands including Meta/Instagram, Tommy Hilfiger, TIME Magazine, OpenSea, Cameo, and more. He has exhibited work in shows at Artspace Gallery (Richmond, VA), Washington County Museum of Fine Art (Hagerstown,MD), Circle Gallery (Annapolis, MD) and (Terrault Gallery (Baltimore, MD).

Launching exclusively on OpenSea and produced by Creature Labs the sale spans 24 hours, starting at 2pm EST on 7th September. Coinciding with the release is an engaging short documentary that delves into Hager’s artistic inspirations and personal journey. Bill Woodrow RA Makes History As First Royal Academician To Create An NFT https://artplugged.co.uk/bill-woodrow-ra-makes-history-as-first-royal-academician-to-create-an-nft/ https://artplugged.co.uk/bill-woodrow-ra-makes-history-as-first-royal-academician-to-create-an-nft/#comments Sat, 24 Jun 2023 19:01:49 +0000 https://artplugged.co.uk/?p=40793 Bill Woodrow has become the first Royal Academician to create an NFT titled ‘SPITNUK‘, an infinite loop movie that is currently on display at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in the Small Weston Room.

Woodrow Teams Up with Irrefutable and Esper, experts in NFT concepts and 3D scanning, Woodrow has revisited the traditional Russian folkloric nesting doll as a subject, following on from previous sculptures made in 2008 and 2022. The digital art piece features a deconstructed and re-assembled the nesting doll infused with a startling essence. For a face the doll a classic image of Joseph Stalin, a iconic symbol of Russian terror is adrift, tumbling through space, with blood on its hands. ‘Spitnuk’ is priced at £25,000 and comes with a GIF and a large Exhibition piece file.

Bill Woodrow says: “How to depict and use infinity to make a comment about the current world situation was the question I tried to answer with this work.

Joe Johnson, Founder of Irrefutable: “When conceiving of Irrefutable, the first group of artists that jumped to mind were those of the famous New British Sculpture group. Bill was actually the first artist we contacted. Honestly, we didn’t expect a reply. But Bill got to grips with the possibilities of the technology very quickly indeed. We decided on this concept together, but Bill has a shortlist of brilliant ideas for digital art sculptures.”

Bill Woodrow RA Makes History As First Royal Academician To Create An NFT

Irrefutable work with long time friends and collaborators Esper, who build the most respected 3D scanning and photogrammetry rigs in the world from their workshop in Nottingham’s Lace Market. Every 3D scan presents its own challenges, but David Eilbeck, Nick Foots and Chris Richardson of Esper relished the challenge of scanning the sculpture and placing it in an infinite space scene.

Photos show an Esper scanning rig and Bill’s original sculpture, primed for the scanning process (A 3D scanner uses these “high-contrast” sticker dots to help determine location. Markers are usually applied on (or near) the object being scanned, to increase accuracy and repeatability of 3D data.).

About Bill Woodrow

Bill Woodrow is a British sculptor, is known for using ordinary objects from homes and cities to create sculptures that retain the essence of their original identity. He has broadened his range of materials to include welded steel and cast bronze since the late 1980s. Woodrow is part of a group of renowned British sculptors born during the late 1940s and early 1950s who have helped reshape public perception of sculpture. This group also includes Anish Kapoor RA, Antony Gormley RA, Tony Cragg RA; and Richard Deacon RA.

Bill Woodrow attended Winchester School of Arts from 1967 to 1968, then studied at St. Martin’s School of Art in London from 1968 to 1971. He also spent a year at the Chelsea School of Art in London from 1971 to 1972. His first individual art show was at the Whitechapel Gallery in London in 1972. During the early 1980s, he showcased his work in Sydney, Paris, and São Paulo on behalf of Britain. In 1986, he was one of the finalists for the Turner Prize at the Tate Gallery in London.

‘UNITED BY DESIGN’ NFTS INSPIRED BY THE STAGE ARCHITECTURE OF THE 2023 EUROVISION SONG CONTEST https://artplugged.co.uk/united-by-design-nfts-inspired-by-the-stage-architecture-of-the-2023-eurovision-song-contest/ Wed, 24 May 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://artplugged.co.uk/?p=39421

Yellow Studio has unveiled details of their limited edition ‘United by DesignNFT art collection in celebration of their set design for the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, following the grand final which took place in Liverpool on Saturday 13 May.  Named after the theme ‘United by Music’ from this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, the collection officially launches today for a 7-day auction, with all proceeds donated to the Irpin Centre of Culture Ukraine, which was severely damaged because of the war.

‘UNITED BY DESIGN’ NFTS INSPIRED BY THE STAGE ARCHITECTURE OF THE 2023 EUROVISION SONG CONTEST

Created by Yellow Studio, the collection features 18 exciting digital works that are inspired by the stage architecture of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. For this year’s event, the stage took inspiration from a wide hug that enfolded the Liverpool Arena – from above and below – opening its arms to Ukraine, and the show’s performers from across the world. The 220 sqm of staging covered the arena floor, connecting the stage, performers, audience, and greenroom as one structure. The immersive approach of the design offered contestants and hosts multiple locations to demonstrate how music transcends borders and brings people together.

To give back to the artistic communities of Ukraine, Yellow Studio will donate all proceeds from the NFT collection to the Iprin Central House of Culture, the city’s main cultural and creative space. The building was severely damaged by fierce fighting in the city in March 2022 and the Central House of Culture plans to restore the city’s iconic landmark at a cost of 15 million euros. For the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, Liverpool took up hosting duties after the 2022 winners Ukraine were unable to due to the ongoing war.

Julio Himede, founder of Yellow Studio says: “Eurovision Song Contest is a diverse cultural event that supports the arts and unites communities across Europe. As this year’s stage designers, we want to use this platform to give back to the Ukrainian people and their inspiring arts community”.

Yellow Studio are the world’s leading design studio specialising in production design, creative direction and art direction for television and live events. Over the past two decades, Yellow Studio and its team of creatives have worked on some of the biggest televised events that have left a lasting impression on millions of audiences across the globe. Jakob Kudsk Steensen: Liminal Lands https://artplugged.co.uk/jakob-kudsk-steensen-liminal-lands/ Fri, 12 May 2023 08:46:15 +0000 https://artplugged.co.uk/?p=38854

Jakob Kudsk Steensen: Liminal Lands
21st May to 16th July, 2023
Outernet Arts
The Now Building
Charing Cross Road
London

Danish artist Jakob Kudsk Steensen will be presenting Liminal Lands in a new multi-channel format across the world’s largest wrap-around screens for Outernet Arts on Tottenham Court Road. The installation will be free and accessible to the public, running every Sunday between 12:00 – 18:00 from 21st May to 16th July, 2023.

Liminal Lands evokes a transitional zone where fundamental energies of sun, salt, wind, water and bacteria collide in a hybrid reality. Gathered during over a year of fieldwork in the salt marshes of southern France, Steensen digitised and revived these real photographic elements into a synchronised 3D composition that highlights the otherwise unseen macro- and microscopic ecosystems of the wetlands.

Jakob Kudsk Steensen: Liminal Lands
Jakob Kudsk Steensen: Liminal Lands

Liminal Lands is a continuation of Steensen’s artistic practices of slow media and deep listening. The rhythm and attention to detail in the artwork reveals life-shaping transformations, invisible to the naked eye. The video begins slowly and rhythmically, leading the viewer away from the human realm into a plant, animal, and bacterial metamorphosis of life and technology.

Scales are manipulated, stretched and expanded, showing each micro-landscape of the wetlands from a changed perspective. A spatial sound system reveals an artistic curation of natural recorded material from the local landscape.

Every sound, form and texture in Liminal Lands has been digitised from the salt marshes of Salin de Giraud, in the Camargue region of the south of France. By recreating this very real, yet very remote setting in the context of the virtual, visitors can explore the evolution of the landscape’s biodiversity across human and geological time scales. The 3D reconstructive technology becomes a sensory tool for a new, ritualistic environmental experience.

Liminal Lands is one of a trilogy of Steensen’s immersive artworks focusing on wetlands and their forgotten natural histories. Wetlands cover 1% of the planet’s surface, but they account for 10% of all biodiversity. They are at the cradle of human life, as wetlands function as filters creating sustainable sources of freshwater. Liminal Lands brings a new, slow sensibility to these otherwise overlooked environments, encouraging visitors to re-examine their relationship to the ecosystems beneath their feet.

Originally commissioned by Luma Arles for the ‘Prelude Exhibition, 2021, Liminal Lands has also been shown at Nahmad Contemporary, Kornhausforum Bern, Reference Studios x Selfridges, Today Art Museum Beijing, SODA Gallery Manchester, as well as the BFI London Film Festival, Geneva International Film Festival, South By Southwest, Sonar Festival and VRHAM Hamburg. Liminal Lands is also being prepared for online distribution.

It captures the grand jewels of St Edward’s Crown — which was also worn by the late Queen Elizabeth II during her 1953 coronation — in vivid brushstrokes. Now transformed into an NFT, the digitised artwork reveals a hidden, multi-layered world of animation, inspired by the magnitude of the Coronation as a landmark moment in history for London, the UK, and the Commonwealth.

The collaboration marks the next step on The Evening Standard’s journey with NFTs. In 2021, ES Magazine unveiled a unique NFT cover by digital artists Warren Du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones for the front cover of its September fashion issue. It starred non-binary model and poet Kai-Isaiah Jamal, which broke barriers as the first ever moving NFT piece of art produced by a fashion magazine.

This NFT also featured a sound piece created by musician James Lavelle using Kai’s spoken word with poetry they wrote for the piece. The latest artwork symbolises The Evening Standard’s drive to expand access to and awareness of NFTs among wider audiences.
